The Conclusion of Kya Truth Finder

You make your way back to the mountainside. In the distance, you see the castle once more. It is so vivid. The shimmering ward that holds the creatures in place and keeps the abyss from opening up within the castle. A dragon roar vibrates through the air.

You keep your hand on the patchwork book bag as you take in the night. Now all you have to do is find Kya—as if you have summoned her, the smell of amber, cloves, and lavender grows stronger. Kya is suddenly standing beside you, as if she has simply stepped out of the air. “Back so soon?” She looks at you expectantly, her dark eyes shining.

“Yes.” You pull the bag of books off your shoulder and smile. “And I didn’t just get the list. I brought you a copy of each title.”

Her eyes widen with gratitude as she accepts the bag. Gently, she lifts the patchwork flap. “Look at these beautiful volumes,” she whispers. Delight fills her voice. “Such beautiful love stories. The very best of the best.”

“Glad I was able to help. You can keep them.”

She brushes her hand across your cheek as she moves a lock of your hair back, her smile bright and warm. “With this gift of books, I will be able to strengthen the wards all the way through the holiday. Thank you for your generosity.”

As she steps back, she adjusts the bag of books over her shoulder. “You have done a wondrous thing, dear hope,” she says. “I am glad that people such as you exist.”

“More than happy to help, Kya. Is there anything else you need?”

“No.” She beams at you. “My task is clear. But there are others who will be in need of your help, if you are willing.” Kya gestures toward the path that curls along the edge of the mountain. “If you are willing, I hope you’ll provide them with your assistance as well. This week will be full of grand adventures, mythical and magical. I am certain your knowledge will serve you well. I am sure that fate will bring us across one another’s paths once again.”

With graceful ease, she climbs down the cliff, disappearing from sight. You turn your face toward the mountain path. It curls ever upward. And as the wind changes, you catch a hint of something. Blood? Adventure? Smoke?

You don’t know what you’ll find, but you are ever so curious. Setting a steady pace for yourself, you start forward.
